Ultimate Astragal with Flip Lever

The Ultimate Flip Lever Astragal combines enhanced performance with the benefits of enhanced accessibility and ease of use. Just one flip of the easy-to-use built-in lever activates the Floating Boot and Flush Bolt system, securing the unit with two lasting seals, even in imperfect or changing conditions. The Floating Boot and Flush Bolt deliver a perfect seal every time, operating independently of each other to seal against the lowest point on the sill when engaged, while lifting clear of the sill when retracted for lasting, damage-free operation.

With the Flip lever upright, the Floating Boot and Flush Bolt are lifted clear of the sill.

As the Flip Lever is lowered, the Floating Boot drops independently to seal against the cap.

After the Floating Boot, the Flush Bolt lowers, engaging with the sill regardless of drill hole depth.

Premium Fiberglass Lite Frames

Most fiberglass doors include a piece of glass inserted with a lite frame around it. The profile of this lite frame varies but the size of the lite will dictate the number of lite plugs that are required. Very often these lite plugs may be misplaced or need to be replaced over the life of the door. A 2566 frame means the glass is 25″ wide by 66″ tall. This article should be used as a reference only and may contain obsolete frame sizes.

PermaCast Caps and Base Sets

Caps and Bases are decorative components that are used in conjunction with a column. There are many options of construction and shapes for Caps and Bases. Caps and Bases can be used on PermaCast, PermaLite and PermaWrap Columns.

Standard Caps and Base

The standard cap and base for an HBG Column depends on the type of column. PermaCast and PermaLite columns utilize a Tuscan cap and base options are Tuscan, where PermaWrap is either a Standard or Ogee Cap and Base.

The standard cap and base for a PermaCast column is made of polyurethane. They fit over the shaft and do not alter the height of the column. A PermaTuff base is made of fiberglass while the cap is urethane. Colonial caps and bases are a low profile and are typically used when the railing will be attached to the column. The Tuscan cap and base kit include installation brackets and can be up to 16″ in diameter. Decorative and Ornamental caps are also an option. When used with PermaCast round columns, it will alter or change the height of the shaft. When used with PermaCast square columns, it will not alter or change the height of the shaft.

The standard cap and base for a PermaCast column is made of polyurethane, they fit around the shaft and do not alter the height of the column. The Tuscan cap and base kit includes installation brackets for up to a 16” diameter. Tuscan cap and base kits that come with installation brackets also come with Flashing. The flashing acts as a cap to cover the top of the column to keep the elements out. Installation kits and flashing are available for Round Tapered and Square Columns. There are plenty of other profiles of Caps and Bases to fit the homeowners needs. Including, a Colonial profile, which is a low profile Tuscan option, that will help when railing is used, as well as an Attic and Doric option. These are not standard, but can be ordered through HB&G as a special order item.

PermaCast columns come standard with a flashing. It is applied to the top of the cap to keep the elements out. The cap and base flashing kit only fits the Tuscan style.

Decorative Caps and Bases are to be used with Tapered Columns only. For a Decorative Cap and Base with a non-tapered column, order the next size up (ie: 8″ column, order 10″ cap with a 8″ base). It must be modified in the field.

PermaTuff

A PermaTuff base is made of fiberglass while the cap is made of urethane. This allows for durability in a heavily trafficked or highly exposed area.

Decorative and Ornamental

Decorative and Ornamental caps are not a set, they’re cap only. The customer must buy a base as a loose component. These caps are can be used with Round PermaCast columns (with a taper) and square columns. When used with a PermaCast round column, the caps are made to alter the height of the unit, and the top of the column, above the neckmold, needs to be adjusted. This requires field prep and instructions are included in the box, a link is available below as well. When used with a PermaCast Square Column, it will not alter or change the height of the shaft.

On occasion, there may be a need for a non-tapered round column with a Decorative or Ornamental cap and base. If this look is absolutely necessary, order the next size up for the cap but the correct size base (ie: 8” column, order a 10” cap and an 8” base). The cap will need to be modified on-site to fit the column properly.

Plumb Fit

To make installation even easier the 6”-12” round taper and square poly Tuscan Cap and Base Sets with flashing now come with the PlumbFit Installation System Included. This unique, all in one installation system is designed to reduce the time and labor needed to install columns and ensure accurate column placement. For more information on PlumbFit, view HB&G’s Column Installation Video.

Fypon Distinction Trimmable Crosshead

Crossheads are a decorative unit that go above the door unit. Fypon developed a solution for crossheads that are too long or too short in the field. Trimmable crossheads make it easy during field application because they are easily adjusted in length and can be customized for a door, window, or garage opening. The Distinction Crosshead is a trimmable crosshead profile.

After trimming, an end cap needs to be attached to the sides to finish off the look.

When attached, the end caps overlap the crosshead the size of the rabbet on the back side of the end caps.

This profile of crosshead can be paired with a keystone, dentil trim, or bottom trim. There are two types of keystones: a plain design and a design with a recessed panel.

The part number for the distinction trimmable crosshead is CHTCWWXH where:

  • CH = Crosshead
  • T = Trimmable
  • WW = Width
  • H = Height

The part number for the distinction trimmable crosshead end cap is CHCWXH where:

  • CH = Crosshead
  • C = Cap
  • W = Width
  • H = Height

When ordering the distinction crosshead:

  • Measure the crosshead height that is desired.
  • Measure the overall width where the crosshead and end caps will sit.
  • Select the end cap width needed. The end cap should coordinate with the pilaster or moulding on either side of the door/window. If no moulding is used then any end cap width can be chosen.
  • Determine the trimmable crosshead size needed (overall width needed – end cap back surface X 2)
  • Select the trimmable crosshead that will work.
  • If desired, select a keystone, dentil trim, or bottom trim accessory.

Backed by a lifetime limited warranty, Fypon products won’t warp, crack, rot or split, saving future replacement and maintenance. There is no stain or paint prep saving time and labor during installation. It is recommended to use Loctite PL Premium Adhesive (Part Number ADH1) as a bonding agent to the exterior or interior surface, followed by screwing or nailing to securely fasten for polyurethane products
