Reeb’s stock of Architectural Wood Flush Doors arrive without any factory machining, meaning there will be no bore, no edge prep, and no hinge prep. This creates an opportunity for a number of specifications for the type of prep for a bore as well as its location.
No Bore
First is the option for no bore. This is a popular option when using panic hardware. The hardware is attached to the face of the door and therefore no boring is necessary.
161 Prep

A 161 Prep is a cylindrical lock prep. The center of the bore (backset) will be 2-3/4″ from the edge of the door and the bore itself will be 2-1/8″ in diameter. The edge of the door will have a 1-1/8″ x 2-1/4″ edge prep to account for the latch of the lockset. The 161 prep will fit most cylindrical handlesets that have a 2-3/4” backset option.
161 Prep with Thru Bolts

A 161 Prep will be prepared as stated above. In addition to this preparation, thru bolts are added based on the lockset chosen. Some heavier duty locks need the additional sturdiness to prevent lever sag. Many times this prep is done in the field, but if it is desired to be completed by Reeb a template will be required for proper machining.
86 Edge Mortise Pocket

86 Edge is a mortise lock prep where the door edge prep is 1-1/8″ x 8″. This lock features tabs to fasten the lock box to the door edge and does not include any face preps. At this time, doors with this prep must be special ordered.
86 Edge Mortise Pocket with Function Holes

Prepared as stated above, this bore also includes function holes. These are cut into the face of the door for the lockset. The preps can vary in diameter, quantity, and location based on the lock manufacturer and function. Many times this prep is done in the field, but if it is desired to be completed by Reeb a template is required for proper machining. At this time, doors with this prep must be special ordered. Below is a picture of a handleset template with function prep highlighted.
