- Flathead screwdriver
- Hammer
- Snips

This video reviews the steps on how to change out a strike plate included with a standard astragal to a larger strike plate (such as those required and supplied with Schlage® locks).
Version/Situation 1: The video first demonstrates the installation of a strike plate that correctly aligns with the standard screw boss.
Version/Situation 2: Installing a large strike plate that does not align with the pre-installed screw boss.
- Using a large screwdriver and a hammer, lightly tap the edge of the screw boss to remove it from the astragal.
- Position the larger strike plate making sure it aligns properly with the deadbolt’s throw.
- Install strike plate using two 2 to 2-1/2 inch screws.
- Size and install the vinyl astragal covers.
