Commercial Hinges

Hinges play a crucial role in the operation of doors, allowing them to open and close smoothly. Commercial hinges are typically sized at 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ and feature a C-shaped screw pattern. The specific benefits of each hinge depend on its intended function.

Standard Architectural Hinges

Standard Architectural Hinges are square corner steel hinges with a steel pin, designed for full mortise installation. While they are not rated as fire-resistant hinges, they are suitable for commercial applications. It’s important to note that these hinges should only be used in non-rated door units.

These hinges come in two variants: for inswing units, where the pin is removable (referred to as plain-bearing hinges), and for outswing units, where the pin is non-removable (known as non-removable pin or NRP hinges). Plain-bearing hinges are available in finishes like US3, US10B, US1, and US26D, while plain-bearing NRP hinges are exclusively available in US26D.

Ball-Bearing Architectural Hinges

Ball-Bearing Architectural Hinges are also full mortise square corner steel hinges with a steel pin, but they have a UL rating, making them suitable as fire-resistant hinges. These hinges feature ball bearings inserted between the knuckles, enhancing their durability and functionality over time. They are specifically intended for use with rated door units equipped with a door closer.

Similar to the standard hinges, ball-bearing hinges come in two configurations: removable pin (ball-bearing hinge) for inswing units and non-removable pin (NRP hinge) for outswing units. Ball-bearing hinges are available in finishes like US3, US10B, U1S, and US26D, while ball-bearing NRP hinges are available in US26D and US32D.

Self-Closing Hinges

Self-closing hinges are single-action spring steel hinges with a UL rating, making them suitable as fire-resistant hinges. These hinges feature self-lubricating bearings and an easily adjustable spring tension mechanism between the knuckles. This design enables the door to automatically close after being opened.

Self-closing hinges are used in rated door units that do not have a separate door closer. Self-closing hinges are available in finishes like US15, US32D, and US26D.
