Therma-Tru offers impact-rated doors and glass that can be used to meet high-wind and coastal region codes and regulations. These offer excellent performance in extreme weather conditions while providing added protection. All impact-rated doors pass a large missile impact test where Therma-Tru blasts a 9 pound 2” x 4’ stud into the doors at 34 mph to prove they are the better choice for strength. It is important when it comes to impact door usage that building code requirements are reviewed in the area of purchase to ensure all codes are met.
Any impact rated unit must be created as a boxed unit. The following are general requirements for Therma-Tru Impact Door Systems:
- 6/8 Door: 2-1/2” screws through the stile and into the top and bottom rails
- 8/0 Door: #9 X 3″ PFH screws through all four corner
- Door: Fiber-Classic or Smooth-Star Glazed (Glass) Doors Only
- Sidelites: No additional screws needed through sidelites
- Frame: Frame members connected to the rough opening can be wood or composite

During testing, a unit was tested using a door with an entry lock and deadbolt and, a unit was tested using a multi-point locking system. Specific requirements exist based on the lock type used.
- Entry with Deadbolt: 6/8 doors need a 5-1/2″ Center on Center Bore
- Entry with Deadbolt: 8/0 doors need a 12″ Center on Center Bore
- Multi-Point Locking System: No additional requirements
